So, as I said in me last blog, I'm kinda looking to branch out some and explore some other looks. I've got the new gambeson for the Robin Hood'esque garb, and I've joined a hella cool Viking group, live steel combat, living history...the works. So I'll be spending some major time on my Viking kit.
However, there are other things too! The Captain Teague costume has been tickling my fancy again, though I think thats on the "long term project" scale, much like the Rohan Soldier. They're both pretty involved and nothing that can be thrown together inside a year and look right.
I've also decided to finish another garb project I've had stewing for a while...my Crusader. Thats pretty close to wearable...got a surcoat and riding cape, the maille, heck even my Norman helmet will work for now. What I dont have, however, is any flippin idea what they wore UNDERNEATH all that! I cant for the life of me find out what kind/style of pants to use, what to use for footwear, etc. So if anyone here can help me out and either point me in the right direction, or send someone my way, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Looking forward to the first faire of the season in May!
..but it's time for another one of these blog thingies.
Contrary to what we believed this time last year, we have decided to not go to Pyrate Con this year. Too much drama. We'll let things sort themselves out and see what happens. That and the the whole undead/zombie thing seems a bit out of place at a pirate convention. If it was Halloween, maybe....
I've decided to branch out garb wise too. I hate to say it, but the pirate crowd is becoming pretty saturated. I guess thats the price for being popular. So I'm going to start in on a Robin Hood type thing (no green tights or pointy hats, sorry) and a Viking. On the long term side, I have finally decided to undertake my great long desired project, and begin work on a Rohan Soldier, from the Lord of the Rings. They had a very Anglo-Saxon/Beowulf feel, and I will probably be able to work a lot of the Viking into it, so it seemed a good time to begin that as well.
So that's things in a nutshell. Looking forward to May, when all the local faires hit. Then its the long summer break until KC. Sigh.
Hey man!! Thanks for the compliment! I appreciate it!! Been a busy boy - trying to get stock done for the holidays! I'll be sending those (terrible) drawings to you very soon!
